NL Health Services

The Adult Rehabilitation, Geriatrics and Palliative Care Program, operating out of the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre, provides primary, secondary and tertiary rehabilitation services for the Eastern Region of the Province and tertiary rehabilitation for the entire province.  Tertiary services include rehabilitation for those with spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, amputation, major trauma, chronic pain syndromes, stroke and Geriatric Rehabilitation.

The site offers both inpatient and outpatient services as well as, specialty services such as Prosthetics and Orthotics, Complex Postural Seating, Driving Assessment Services and our Rehabilitation Medicine Clinic.

Program Description:

The NL Health Services Adult Rehabilitation, Geriatrics and Palliative Care program strives to help adult individuals to keep, restore or improve skills and functioning for daily living that have been lost or impaired because of a physical injury or illness.  Working with individuals and their families the Inpatient and Outpatient rehabilitation team located in the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre, include Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Physicians, General Practitioners, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists, Recreation Therapists, Dieticians, Social Workers, Psychologists, Nursing and Pharmacy.  This skilled interdisciplinary teams, assists people disabled by physical injury or disease to reach and maintain their best possible level of physical, intellectual, psychological and social functioning. Using a combination of therapeutic intervention services based upon the individual’s rehabilitation goals, rehabilitation services provide people with the skills and tools they need to achieve, maintain or improve independence in daily living.

Services may be delivered in person or virtually. For individuals unable to take advantage of the program services the rehabilitation program collaborates with health care professionals across the province involved in individual care to monitor readiness for rehabilitation and determine possible rehabilitation options. Recognizing that rehabilitation is often a life time journey individuals needing rehabilitation services can be referred to the program by health professionals at any time.
